The challenge is underway! This forum will serve as a place to share your trials, triumphs and tribulations as we step it up together!
"Team Manheim" is looking forward to the twelve weeks of "stepping"! We are thinking of creative ways to increase our steps per day! Instead of standing to talk we are walking in place! If anyone has any ideas to share we are open to suggestions! GO TEAM!
For those that are already meeting the daily challenge of 10,000 steps - try challenging youself to complete it in a shorter period of time - for example -only wear your pedometer at work. Everyone benefits from moving more! Good luck and get stepping!
Here is a web site offering a walking challenge "Step up to Change". It will begin on September 29th. Look at the site for more specific suggestions and even workouts to add to our 10,000 step pedometer challenge.
Yesterday I did something as simple as parking at the end of the parking lots when I ran some errands after school. You get more steps...and lessen the chance of someone ramming your car with their doors! :)replyquote24th September 12:03 p.m.
I can tell that I'm making a more conscious effort to walk more. I bet there were days in the past were I did less than 2000 steps in a day. Just tracking the steps is helpful to get me moving more. I know the same thing happens when I track what I eat - although I am not doing that right now:)
join us on Tuesdays at Codorus for several thousands of beautiful steps!
Can we bring our dogs to walk at Codorus? I always take mine to practice frisbee catching there, but didn't know if this activity encouraged it or not.
You can bring dogs--they just need to be leashed according to park rules.
Several of us on the third grade team here at PH have become quite competitive (in a friendly way of course) and will often "fight" for who will make the trip to the art supply closet, office, retrieve the portable computer cart etc., just so we can put a few extra steps on our pedometers.
How is that Codorus walk for strollers? Are their any wellness activities that are particularly good for families with young children?
The trail would not be good for strollers--do you have a backpack? I would gladly help if your children wouldnt mind.
Thanks for the offer but I have 16 month old twins who aren't super fond of strangers. I don't have a back pack either so we'll just have to look for other stepping opportunities. There's always the walk to the playground!
Jenn,
I could do a walk with you and the boys some time (with or without my kiddos). How long is the Codorus walk?
the codorus walk is around 4 miles--takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes--on the horse trail.
Sounds like fun Michelle. How about a Monday or Wednesday? I'm not sure we need to do 4 miles but we can just walk until we're half way tired and turn around and walk back! ;-)
